INTRODUCTION:Sang’alo institute of science and technology was started in 1924 as an animal breeding centre under a Scottish Veterinarian, Dr. Cameron. In 1977 it was converted to a Harambee Institute to train middle level manpower in Agriculture and related fields.In 1993, the college gained Public status It is approximately 8 kilometers from Bungoma town along the Bungoma Nambacha road. Sang’alo Institute  stands on 550 acreage donated by Paramount Chief Sudi Namachanja. The institute has a Town campus in Bungoma town.

COLLEGE Sang’alo Institute is managed by a Board of governors under the chairmanship of  Governor, Prof. Eng. Sibilike K. Makhanu, Ph.D, MIEK, P. Eng., Former DVC (A & F), MMUST as the BOG  chairman, the principal Mr. ChrysantusWanyonyi is the CEO and carries out all the administrative tasks of the institute He is deputized by Mr Wekesa Ndeke Deputy Principal Administrative and Madam Roselyne Muleshe, Deputy Principal,  Academics. Mr. Boaz Ojwang’ is the Registrar while Mr. Martin Wekesa is the Dean of students . Mrs Charity Musima is the Industrial Liaison Officer. Mrs Florence Maleche is the Guidance and Counseling Coordinator. There are 10 Heads of departments.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES: The institute has market oriented Programmes that are examined by both Kenya National Examinations Council and Kenya Accountants and secretaries National examination Board ( KASNEB) The Institute registers very good results and is committed to excel. It is a Centre of Excellence in Agriculture and has been greatly supported by the Ministry of Technical Education to be a Centre of excellence in Capacity Building Research , Science and Technology. To provide skills and quality training in Applied Research, Science and Technology to enhance sustainable Community and National Development

CENTRE OF EXELLENCE IN AGRICULTURE: Sang’alo institute of science and technology is a  National Centre of Excellence in Agriculture . We are endowed with a vast land sitting on 550 acres .  In this regard, we have established linkages and collaborations that helps us realize this goal . The collaborations are with KARI, Kakamega .  Masinde Muliro University, The Ministry of Agriculture and that of Livestock – Bungoma, Sitikho campus and are still open for more interactions to better our National excellence status .

RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY: Sangalo  Institute has research and innovations .It participates in regional and National seminars and conferences . The applied science category received an award for the most innovative project. However it has not been without challenges. The issue of funding and right research personnel has remained wanting.

WAY FORWARD : The ministry and other stakeholders should ensure that there are more conferences to equip us with the necessary skills and mood to create a conducive environment for research. The Government should also release more funds towards this for the realization of vision 2030.

CEREMONIES: The institute held her second graduation ceremony together with ISDO certification on 28th March 2014. More than 1500 students graduated. We also have a host of activities that help mold the trainees into more focused individuals and make them all round. These include: Games and sports in which we have had exemplary performance; Drama, Guidance and counseling among others.

INFRASTRUCTURE: We have in- built roads that give the institute a proper sense of communication. We also have enough classrooms, workshops and hostels that take care of our current student population of 1800.

PERFORMANCE: We have been identified for exemplary performance with students scoring several distinctions in National examinations. For your next choice in Technical training please don’t look beyond us. Choose us to pursue your training needs and have your dream come true!

ISO CERTIFIICATION: The Institute is now ISO 9001:2008 certified

Library:  The college library has undergone remarkable renovations. E-learning , online student web portal  and other ICT infrastructure to support teaching and learning process are being put in place.

Workshops:  The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology ( MOHEST),  has constructed two workshop blocks to accommodate Automotive Engineering and Agricultural Engineering students. Already Equipment’s for former have been received.

Laboratories: New laboratories with modern set of equipment’s have been delivered to the institute. The Science complex building which started in 2010 is  complete and now it houses Food and Beverage, Science Labs (Physics and Chemistry) Clothing Technology and Other Agricultural and animal related fields.

Science  Laboratory Technicians Workshop....!!!

The department of Applied sciences cordially invites Science Laboratory Technicians from secondary schools to attend a Technicians workshop to be held from 17th -19th August 2015 at Sang;alo Institute of Science & Technology  -Science complex. The Topics to be tackled includes but not limited to :

  1. Laboratory techniques
  2. Interpretation of KNEC practical instructions
  3. Preparation of KNEC practical in Biology, Chemistry & Physics
  4. Taxonomy / Classification

The course will run for three days at a cost of Kshs. 2000 per day to meet the costs of facilitation. Participants will cater for their meals and other necessities.
